The beauty of Rome is that most activities and events happen outside, given that the climate is almost always favorable and pleasant even in winter. However, for some time now, “happenings” have been in vogue: super-exclusive evenings where good food and high quality music played by international DJs perfectly merge with each other.
For instance, the new Lumen Bar in the newly restored St. Regis Hotel hosts such special events on weekdays, especially on Wednesdays and Thursdays, where you can mingle and dance until late. Spend a pleasant evening away from prying eyes amongst shades of white, blue and gold in the tender light of the beautiful halls decorated by the interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon, surrounded by the sculptures of Loris Cecchini from the Galleria Continua in San Gimignano.
Nico Vascellari and Nicolò Fortuni of the Ninos du Brasil love to perform in those halls, creating a real urban jungle of fun. Try one of the best Gin and Tonic in the city – prepared with Explorer’s Gin from London’s Downton distilleries, combined with Sicilian lemons, Brazilian red pepper, Asian spices and Tuscan juniper – or one of the many fruit-flavored soft drinks. Two waiters are always at hand to advise you on the best items on the menu, and for any other need the general manager Giuseppe De Martino is always available, a worldly man of the past who has made elegance a raison d’etre to be dispensed in equal measure to each customer.
If you get tired from dancing too much or have had too much to drink, you can ask to be taken back home in a 1962 Fiat 600 Multipla made specifically by Garage Italia. With that vintage antique black and ivory pastel car, embellished with a gold leaf twenty-four carats belt-line on the sides, equipped with an electric motor, you can truly admire the city at night. It might not be a Vespa, but it does not matter: the thrills of Roman Holiday are guaranteed nonetheless.
